Maria Diane Ventura
Filmmaker Maria Diane Ventura has vacillated beautifully between marginalia and center- page in her artistic output. She has served as creator and collaborator, orchestrator and singular player. She has watched and learned and done, and is on a creative crescendo that is far from over.
From creating award winning music videos, to executive producing sold-out arena shows featuring Asian rock artists, Maria Diane Ventura has now broken into the world of film. Her mind-bending short, TheRapist, was shortlisted as among the Best Short Films in SE Asia.
Awaken ( Mulat ), an exploration of dream states and altered consciousness bagged her the Best Director at the IFFM in New York and Best Narrative feature at the Worldfest Cinema in Brazil in 2016.
Deine Farbe (Your Color), a socio-political drama, her official international directorial debut, wrapped production in Germany and Spain in 2020 and premiered at HOFER Filmtage in Germany and premiered at the Soho Film Festival in the US. It has since won 22 awards globally.
Your Color Premiered on Amazon Prime in 68 countries in 2021.
Luz Oscura ( Dark Light ), her next feature, a psychological drama about a woman’s struggle to find freedom from her past, will be shot in Mexico and Los Angeles, USA
Eraserheads: Combo on the Run, her first documentary, a socio-political film that features the biggest artist in Philippine history will be released theatrically in 2025.
“I dream of making culturally and thematically diverse films and exploring characters and beliefs different from my own. Ultimately, I want to prove that despite our fundamental differences, emotional experiences are universal. I want my work to be a testament to my belief that barriers are illusory and unity is attainable if we approach ideas with tolerance and acceptance,” the director shared.
